The Hard Question: Illuminating Key Issues that pertain to Energy

The Hard Question is an unbiased, interview-based television program aired in Houston, TX and made possible with the support of the Foundation for Energy Education. Each episode explores a different energy issue and features two guests representing different positions. Interviews are conducted one-on-one to allow for deeper and more engaging conversations and each guest is provided the opportunity to pose one hard question to the other guest.

The goal of The Hard Question is to illuminate key issues pertaining to energy, including the environment, jobs and the economy. This dialogue with the American public is especially critical during an election year.

The first episode aired June 24 on ABC in Houston, TX and asked whether America should wean itself off oil. It featured interviews with Bruce Vincent, President and Director of Swift Energy, Carl Pope, former Executive Director of The Sierra Club and an editorial by John Hofmeister, founder of Citizens for Affordable Energy. The next episode explores what Washington energy policy should look like and features interviews with House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, Representative Dennis Kucinich and another editorial by John Hofmeister.

The host of The Hard Question, Blanquita Cullum, is former Presidentially-appointed, Senate-confirmed Governor on the Broadcasting Board of Governors, which oversees all U.S. international broadcasting. Cullums commitment and leadership during her tenure at the BBG were recently commended by U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, who made a declaration for her in the Congressional Record. Cullum hosted one of the top 100 radio talk shows in the US, served as the president of the National Association of Radio Talk Show Hosts, and founded the Young American Broadcasters.

The Hard Question Advisory Board includes Pat French and David Bole of The Foundation for Energy Education, John Hofmeister of Citizens for Affordable Energy, Becky Klien of Power Across Texas, David Holt of the Consumer Energy Alliance, and Lane Sloan of the Greater Houston Partnership.
